Casing Pipes Explained: Types, Materials, and Applications

casing pipes

In borewells and underground water systems, casing pipes play a very important role. These are long, strong pipes inserted into a borehole after drilling. The main purpose of these pipes is to prevent the soil and rocks from collapsing into the borewell. Thus, casing pipes are protective pipes which are placed inside a drilled borewell to support its walls and keep the water clean and safe.  Without casing pipes, the walls of the borewell may break or slide, which can damage the entire structure.

Another important function of casing pipes is to stop unwanted particles, sand and mud from mixing with the water. This helps in maintaining better water quality and smooth water flow.

Types of Casing Pipes

There are different types of casing pipes available in the market such as plain casing pipes, slotted or screen casing pipes and temporary casing pipes.

  • Plain Casing Pipes: These casing pipes offer a smooth surface without any slots. These are usually used to support the upper portion of the borewell where soil is loose. Their main task is protection and structural support.
  • Slotted or Screen Casing Pipes: These casing pipes have small slots and are used in the water-bearing zone of the borewell. The slots allow water to enter while preventing sand and large particles from entering inside. These pipes help in better filtration and long-lasting performance.
  • Temporary Casing Pipes: These casing pipes are used when the drilling process goes onand it prevents the borehole from collapsing. When permanent casing pipes are installed, these temporary ones are removed.

MATERIALS

Casing pipes are manufactured with different materials. The choice of material affects durability, cost and performance.

  • PVC : Casing pipes made of PVC are lightweight and easy to transport from one place to other. These are resistant to corrosion and do not rust like metal pipes. These casing pipes are widely used for domestic and agricultural borewells for being affordable and easy to install.
  • uPVC :Casing pipes made of uPVC are stronger than regular PVC. These pipes can handle higher pressure and have better strength. These are suitable for deeper borewells and long-term use.
  • Steel : Steel made casing pipes are strong and used in heavy applications like mining or industrial borewells. One of their drawbacks is these are prone to run if not properly coated.

People prefer PVC or uPVC casing pipes due to their cost-effectiveness, easy handing features and resistance to corrosion.

Applications

Casing pipes are used in various sectors. Their main applications include:

  • Domestic:In domestic front, casing pipes protect the borewell structure and help to supply clean groundwater for daily use.
  • Agriculture: Casing pipes are used in agriculture by farmers to draw water for irrigation from borewell. Strong casing pipes ensure continuous water flow without sand blockage.
  • Industrial: Industries require large amounts of water. Casing pipes help maintain borewell stability and smooth water supply.
  • Mining Projects: In mining areas, casing pipes are used to prevent collapse of drilled holes and maintain safety.

APL Apollo’s Casing Pipes

APL Apollo is the leading name in the manufacturing of casing pipes. These casing pipes are made using uPVC material which is Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride. These casing pipes are available in two categories – plain pipes and screen (slotted) pipes. Both of these pipes are best for use in rainwater harvesting.

APL Apollo casing pipes are much lighter than traditional metal pipes making them very easy to carry and transport. You need not heavy machinery or extra labour to move them from one place to another. It saves both time and money on borewell projects. Due to these features,APL Apollo’s casing pipes for borewells are considered a smart and cost-effective choice.

APL Apollo’s casing pipes are easy to install. The pipes are designed for fast and easy jointing, so the setup process takes only a short time. It means less effort at the site and faster project completion.  Another advantage is that these pipes do not rust like metal ones. APL Apollo’s casing pipes are also resistant to bacteria which helps to maintain clean water flow. You can ensure smooth and safe water transportation without frequent maintenance issues.

APL Apollo’s casing pipes are suitable for domestic, irrigation, industrial and even mining borewells. These pipes help protect the borewell structure and keep unwanted particles from mixing with the water. Because of their reliability and quality, these pipes are widely trusted by the plumbing professional and used by various government and semi-government departments across India.
